We were approached by the owners of a semi-detached 1950s house who sought to improve the energy performance and comfort of their home while also creating additional living space. The property suffered from draughts, inefficient doors and windows, and areas of damp. The existing kitchen was cramped with no connection to the garden.

Our proposal introduced a light-filled single-storey extension that provides generous new living space. The kitchen was relocated into one of the former reception rooms to form an open-plan kitchen, living, and dining area with direct views and access to the garden. A large rooflight frames the nearby mature trees and brings natural light deep into the plan.

To address the home’s environmental performance, we upgraded the insulation, improved airtightness, and introduced continuous mechanical ventilation. The gas boiler was replaced with an air-source heat pump for low-carbon heating.

The hallway was reimagined with a bespoke staircase and integrated storage, including a utility cupboard and a compact WC. Upstairs, the two bedrooms were updated with tailored joinery, and all windows and doors were replaced.

The transformation has been remarkable, and our clients are delighted with their warm, comfortable, and energy-efficient home.
